Roe v. Wade Overturned – When Will Women’s Voices Be Heard?

On June 24, 2022 – yes you read that correctly – in the year 2022, the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, which makes the right to abortion unconstitutional. This means that nearly half of the United States will ban or severely limit abortions going forward.

Yet again, decision-makers have shown that they care more for the unborn – those who do not yet have a voice – than they care for those who are already alive. After today’s decision, all women living in the United States will in some way be affected by the the rulings of one ideology. However, banning abortion will not be the one-size-fits-all solution that pro-life advocates may be hoping for.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that around 45% of abortions are unsafe. Just because the right to abortion is now unconstitutional does not mean that abortions will stop – they will only be conducted more dangerously. This puts people seeking abortions at a much higher risk than they would be at if their abortion could be performed by a medical professional, which The WHO deems an essential health care service.

Behind the facts and statistics are real people in your community – mothers, wives, daughters, girlfriends, coworkers, and neighbors. People that can no longer make a decision that could impact the trajectory of their entire lives. And the most inconceivable part of it is that women are not getting pregnant alone – men are just as involved in the process, yet all the accountability seems to fall on the women when they find out they are pregnant.

Women will be forced to carry children even if the pregnancy is harmful to their own physical health. They will be forced to carry children conceived through rape or incest. So many unique situations that each need unique solutions are now all determined by one law.

If the goal of this ruling was to silence women’s voices, then that is absolutely not going to happen. This has ignited a fury within us that is only just getting started. For so long, we’ve had to put up with mistreatment – to take it all in stride and not cause a scene as to not make others feel uncomfortable.

Now is when we flip the script.
